Payment process explained

This very popular financing question regarding dental insurance and billing is being answered by none other than our fantastic Practice Administrator and Financial Coordinator, Teri Janke…

At the time treatment is diagnosed and scheduled, Modern Touch Dental goes to work with your dental insurance company verifying your benefits.

Unfortunately, insurance rarely pays 100% for any treatment (excluding basic preventative things like cleanings/radiographs), so there is typically an out-of-pocket cost for the patient.

By going above and beyond to verify your dental insurance benefits for you, though, we are able to give a close “guestimate” of co-pays (your out-of-pocket investment) well ahead of the treatment/payment time. As soon as we have the information you need, together we review the fees associated with the treatment, breaking out exactly what to anticipate.

At the time treatment is completed, you pay the total out-of-pocket amount estimate we reviewed together. We accept many options for payment including cash, check, credit card, or Care Credit. Once that payment is received, we bill the entire amount of the treatment to the insurance company. They pay the percentage that your policy requires. Where the differences lie in final billed amounts (and why we can only estimate fees for patients), is that dental insurance companies base their payment portion on “allowable fees” which are not actually disclosed to the dental offices. Providers who have agreed to accept the insurance company’s allowed amount for visits and procedures are considered “in-network” providers.

If insurance does not end up paying as much as we anticipate, that’s when you will receive a bill at home for the difference.

If insurance ends up covering more than estimated, you receive a refund from Modern Touch Dental!
